UFC245 Preview

UFC 245: Usman vs. Covington is an upcoming mixed martial arts event produced by the Ultimate Fighting Championship that is planned to take place on December 14, 2019 at T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, United States.
The bout was rumored last week by several media outlets, but UFC didn’t make if official until today. The news comes weeks after Covington revealed that UFC tried to low-ball him to fight at UFC 244, a claim that White obviously denied. The fight will be Usman’s first-ever title defense since capturing the strap this past March following a dominant performance against then-champion, Tyron Woodley, at UFC 235, extending his win streak to 14 straight.
In a highly anticipated welterweight championship grudge match, Kamaru Usman defends against No. 2 ranked contender Colby Covington. Featherweight champion and No. 7 ranked pound-for-pound fighter Max Holloway will go for his fourth successful defense against powerhouse No. 1 contender Alexander Volkanovski. Women’s bantamweight and featherweight champion, as well as No. 5 ranked pound-for-pound fighter, Amanda Nunes looks to continue building her historic legacy as she puts her 135-pound belt on the line in a rematch with former women’s featherweight titleholder and No. 1 ranked bantamweight Germaine de Randamie.
Winner of The Ultimate Fighter season 21, Usman (15-1, fighting out of Dallas, Tx. by way of Auchi, Nigeria) is unbeaten since joining the UFC roster in 2015. He ascended the 170-pound ranks with impressive wins against Rafael Dos Anjos, Demian Maia and Leon Edwards, and his last outing saw him dominate Tyron Woodley to capture the welterweight championship in March. Usman now looks to take out his most heated rival to earn his first successful title defense.

BACKGROUND
A UFC Welterweight Championship bout between the current champion Kamaru Usman and former interim title holder Colby Covington has been slated to serve as the event headliner.

A UFC Featherweight Championship bout between the current champion Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanovski is expected to take place at the event.

A UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship bout between the current champion Amanda Nunes and the inaugural UFC Women's Featherweight Champion Germaine de Randamie is expected to take place at the event. The pairing previously met in November 2013 at UFC: Fight for the Troops 3, with Nunes winning the encounter via TKO in the first round.

Sergio Pettis was briefly linked to a bout with Kai Kara-France at the event. However in early October, Pettis revealed that he was entertaining offers from other promotions after the completion of his previous contract and did not currently have a fight lined up with the promotion. Kara-France is now expected to face Brandon Moreno.
